Talladega Flyball

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

The Droolin Dragsters spent August 8th & 9th in Talladega, AL for a U-fli flyball tournament.
It was a great weekend. Kara came up from Mobile and met the club with Bandit and Griz. It was Bandits first race after loosing his eye. He did great running with the Low Riders. The low riders didn’t fare so well - we came in fourth place both days. But on the brighter side we had some individual improvements. Batty dropped a whole two seconds off his average run time.
The Hot Rods did much better, they placed 2nd on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday. over the weekend we had 3 new dog titles.

Barkin on the River

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

The Droolin Dragsters drove to Memphis to compete in Barkin on the River U-Fli tournament hosted by Fetchin Frenzi, at the St Jude Showcase of Dogs. The weekend was a challenge for the team. We took one team, a combination of both Hot Rods and Low Riders and we went short handed. Saturday we had five dogs, Mikki, Mikey, Amber, Batty, Riley, and only 3 handlers and no box loader. We drafted Michael, Kim’s son, to run our fourth dog and borrowed a box loader from another team. Even with the dogs running in an unfamiliar team order we still had a lot of clean runs, if a little slow and managed to pull Third Place.
Lea and Misty made it up Sunday morning with their three dogs, giving us a six dog team and enough people for handlers and our box loader. Riley, Bella, Autumn, Blaze, Mikey, and Batty ran on Sunday and we managed to pull First Place in our division!

U-Fli Division 7 National Champions 3 Years Running!

Monday, October 26th, 2009

The Drooling Dragtsters traveled all the way to Kearney, NE to compete in Division 7 of the U-Fli National Championships. The Hot Rods competed in the two day Championships while the Low Riders competed in two one day tournaments. Most of the team got to Kearney on Thursday. Friday was spent setting up our crating area and helping with box and line judging for the Dream Team tournament. Kara drove up from Alabama to compete with the team and brought all four of her dogs including Bear who ran singles on Friday. The Hot Rods running this weekend were Griz, Bella, Mikki, Blue, and our height dog was Bandit (it was his second tournament since loosing his eye). Steve Varner, who was home for his two week R&R from Afganistan, made the trip and ran Bandit for us. We won First Place, making us the division seven champions for 3 years in a row! The Low Riders, Red, Mikey, Batty, Blaze, Amber and Autumn (our height dog) came in third on Saturday and Second on Sunday.

Saturday brought a special treat for our teams as Sarah and Steve Marshall drove up and brought all the babies, the two and the four legged ones. Chasing twins around is more than a full time job for the entire team.

Sunday night after the tournament and breakdown we all went out to Gary’s RV to relax, visit, grill dinner and watch a little tv. It was a lazy evening for most of us. Kara left early got a little sleep and headed home at about 3am, she had the farthest to go. The rest of us got some sleep and left Monday morning, it was a long drive for all of us.

2008 U-Fli Division 7 Champions

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

The Droolin Dragsters spent October 10 - 12 in Memphis for the 2008 U-Fli Championships. The tournament was hosted by Fetchin Frenzi this year and it was a great tournament.

Friday was the Dream Team Tournament and Singles and Pairs. We had two pairs racing, Blaze and Mikey paired as did Bella and Griz. Autumn Breeze raced Friday on a pick up Team - All Dachshunds. And one race they even beat a team of all golden retreivers!

Saturday started the Championships and regular tournament. The Hot Rods raced in the championships and held their own. We were racing teams in division 5 and 6, and came home with the Division 7 Championship. The Low Riders were racing in Division 10, regular tournament, both Saturday and Sunday and came home with 2 first place ribbons.

It was a great weekend, but long. Racing didn’t finish until after 9PM on Sunday and it was a long drive home. Now we are debating the trip to Nebraska next September for the 2009 Championships.

Memphis U-Fli Tournament

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

The Droolin Dragsters went to Memphis May 24th and 25th for Fetchin Frenzi’s U-Fli tournament. Kara made it up from Louisiana with Blue, Griz and Bandit, and Anthony brought puppy Bear (a future flyballer?). Lea and Misty made it down with Autumn, Bella and Blaze, while Gary made it down with Mikki, Amber and Mikey (the blonde). Kim and Riley didn’t make it - Riley picked a bad time to get sick and they were really missed. This was Mikey’s first tournament and he suprised us all by doing fairly well. Blaze and Mikey both received their TF titles and Griz and Bella received their next titles.
It was a busy weekend, running two teams with only four handlers and a box loader.

Four New Titles!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

On March 29th and 30th, the Dragsters were in Nashville for the Music City Road Dogs 3rd annual Wired for Sound Flyball Tournament. We ran two teams, the Hot Rods and the Low Riders. Most of our experience was on the Low Riders and the Hot Rods were running 14″ hurdles as they had no height dog. The Low Riders came in Third Place on Saturday and managed a Second Place finish on Sunday in division 5. The Hot Rods were running in division IV and didn’t fare as well running with all of our new dogs on 14″ hurdles. But in spite of it all we had four dogs get new titles! Congratulations Griz, Bella Bop, Riley and Blaze.

U-Fli Division 7 National Champions

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

The Droolin Dragsters made the eleven hour trip to Canton, Tx to compete in the U-Fli National Championships on November 10th.
We drove down on Friday and set up the dragster area at Arbors III, the competition site before checking into the hotel. Racing on Saturday started early, and found us racing against teams in division 5 & 6 as we were the only team there in division 7. We had a few errors but managed to run clean and complete most of our runs to take first in our division.

Sunday was the Y’all Come Flyball Tournament. We had some good clean runs and pulled in some faster times. We came in 3rd place in our division on Sunday. We finished up racing and headed back to the hotel about 8pm.

Monday morning found us back on the road headed for home.

We Qualified for the Nationals

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

The Gamblers hosted a U-Fli qualifier tournament in Talladega, AL on August 18 and 19. The Dragsters were there. We had only one team but it was an amazing day, we not only qualified for the Nationals in Canton, TX in November but we completed every heat. It wasn’t our fasted day on record but it was a great day for running error free. Sunday was almost as good, we were just a little slower but we completed all but two heats. We are all set to go to Canton and compete in Division 7 at the Nationals.

Summer Shootout Flyball Tournament

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

June 30th and July 1st the Droolin Dragsters were in Bessemer, Alabama. The Hot Rods and Low Riders were both running. Kara made the long drive up from Louisiana to meet us and let Blue and Bandit has some fun, although we are not sure that Bandit considers flyball fun. Like most tournaments we had some good moments and some not so good. But the weekend was fun and we came home ready to go again.
